Dengue cases up in ME33, three deaths reported


PUTRAJAYA: The number of dengue fever cases increased slightly to 2,294 in the 33rd Epidemiological Week (ME33) from Aug 11 to 17, compared to 2,278 cases the previous week, with three deaths reported.

Health director-general Datuk Dr Muhammad Radzi Abu Hassan said the cumulative number of dengue fever cases reported up to ME33 was 92,827 compared to 75,928 cases for the same period in 2023.

"There were 83 deaths due to dengue fever complications reported compared with 54 fatalities in the same period last year,” he said in a statement on Saturday (June 24).

He said there were 91 hotspot localities reported in ME33, up from 86 in the previous week.

Of these, 74 were in Selangor, three each in Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya, Negri Sembilan, Perak, Kelantan and Sabah, and one each in Kedah and Penang.

Dr Muhammad Radzi said two chikungunya cases were recorded, bringing the cumulative total to 66 cases.

As for Zika surveillance, he said 1,721 blood samples, eight urine samples, and three cerebrospinal fluid samples were screened, and all results were negative. - Bernama
