Ipoh’s Jalan Kamaruddin Isa cracks and potholes due to erosion, says Mayor

IPOH: A section of Jalan Kamaruddin Isa which is cracked and has potholes is a result of erosion.

Ipoh Mayor Datuk Rumaizi Baharin said this after photos of the condition of the road near Fairpark Bridge had gone viral, where road users were advised to be careful when using the road.

Rumaizi said the road is near the area where the recently upgraded water pipe casing was completed.

He said it was due to a bank erosion near the pipe casing structure which was completed at the beginning of August.

“After carrying out checks, the erosion occurred due to dredging carried out by the contractor for the construction works of the inlet structure at the mouth of the enclosure.

“The bank strengthening works have started on Saturday (Aug 24) with the method of installing sandbags, and the cracks and holes on the road surface have also been filled with crushed rock material for immediate action to prevent more serious collapses,” he said in a statement on Saturday (Aug 24).

Rumaizi said the city council expects the construction of the inlet structure to be completed within a week.

He said there was also a “U drain” installation work that needed to be connected from the existing inlet to the face of the enclosure.

“This installation is expected to be fully completed by mid-September.

“We would like to request road users to obey the safety instruction signs in this area,” he added.
