Slim Village bridge collapses due to flood

IPOH: The Slim Village bridge, a World War II historical site where the battle of Slim River was fought, collapsed at 8pm on Friday night due to flooding caused by continuous rain since afternoon.

Perak Infrastructure, Energy, Water and Public Transport Committee chairman Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin said a four-metre stretch was affected and that it only involved a single state road.

"The Public Works Department are identifying other roads to see if only state roads or PLB roads are affected,” he said in a statement on Friday (Aug 23) night.

He added that the road is currently closed to vehicles.
