Turning a blind eye is going to cost you, PM warns

PUTRAJAYA: Stern action will be taken against the superiors of civil servants who breach rules and regulations when performing the duties and responsibilities they are entrusted with, warns Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The Prime Minister said weaknesses in the administration involving both politicians and the civil service should be overcome so as to not tarnish the image of the country.

“I want such violations of rules and regulations to be reduced drastically by the heads of any unit in all districts nationwide.

“If there is a dereliction of duty (by subordinates) reported, these superiors must act on it or action will be taken against them. Only then will it be fair.

“Otherwise, corruption will become systemic, as if it is part of the culture,” Anwar said at the launch of the Ihsan Madani portal at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre here yesterday.

He was accompanied by Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry staff.

At a press conference after the event, when asked about the police barring a news portal from covering police events, Anwar said he would contact the police promptly to resolve the matter, and gave his assurance that no media personnel would be barred from covering police events.

On the investigation into Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s remarks during the Nenggiri by-election campaign, where he allegedly questioned the previous Yang di-Pertuan Agong role in the formation of the Federal Government following the 2022 general election, Anwar said he would not interfere in the matter and will leave it to the Attorney General.
