Umno divisions call for full pardon for Najib

KUALA LUMPUR: Two years to the day since Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s imprisonment, Umno remains steadfast in its pursuit of justice for the former prime minister and party president.

This commitment was highlighted during Umno’s annual general assembly, with numerous motions submitted by Umno divisions calling for a full pardon for Najib.“Umno headquarters received motions from 72 out of 191 divisions, urging a full pardon and release for Najib,” Umno secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said in his housekeeping address to the delegates.

“We will continue to advocate for Bossku (Najib) as long as he remains behind the iron curtain.”

The party has consistently defended Najib, asserting that the former Pekan MP was denied justice during his trial.

On Feb 2, the Pardons Board decided to commute Najib’s 12-year prison term to six years, with a new release date set for Aug 23, 2028, and to reduce his fine from RM210mil to RM50mil.

Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi reaffirmed the party’s unwavering commitment to seeking justice for Najib.

“Despite some questioning the existence of a royal addendum, Umno will continue to carry the hopes of party members.

“Although he is behind the iron curtain, rest assured that Umno has not forgotten Najib and will continue to fight for him,” he said.

Vice-president Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin emphasised that the party would persist in its efforts, regardless of opposition from other parties.

“Umno does not have to stay silent simply because others may hold different views on the matter. We stand firm in our belief that Najib did not receive fair justice,” he told reporters when met on the sidelines of the general assembly.Najib’s daughter Nooryana Najwa, who also attended the general assembly, shared a message to mark his two years in prison. In an Instagram post, she said the party’s support for her father’s full pardon was still going strong.

“It has been two years since Bossku was imprisoned, and while he has yet to return, we will not lose heart,” she wrote.

She noted the chants of “Bossku” throughout Dewan Merdeka at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur during the assembly, adding: “We are waiting for the day you come back to us, safe and sound.”Several delegates were seen posing for photos in front of Najib’s portrait, displayed along the hallway of WTCKL.
