Zahid calls for action to tackle social ills among Malay community

KUALA LUMPUR: Umno must be at the forefront of resolving issues that cause social ills among the Malay community, says Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

The Umno president instructed the party wings to lead the way to address increasing social ills such as violence and cyberbullying to reduce the cases in the community.

“There have been too many cases of murder or kidnapping, cyberbullying, as well as road accidents taking the lives of our young children.

“I proposed that the Wanita, Pemuda dan Puteri lead in the campaign to reduce social ills in the country, providing solutions to the issues that continue to increase,” he said in his winding-up speech at the end of 2024 Umno General Assembly here, on Saturday (Aug 24).

On the proposal to increase the Puteri Umno’s membership age to 40, the Bagan Datuk MP said he would bring the matter to the party’s management committee and supreme council members.

“We hear the proposal by Puteri Umno to extend the (membership) age to 40. We will bring forward the matter,” he said.

During her speech on Aug 22 at the general assembly, Puteri Umno chief Datuk Nurul Amal Mohd Fauzi proposed extending the age limit for membership in the party wing to 40.

The current age limit for Puteri Umno membership is 35.
