Man dies after falling into 15m deep well in Johor


JOHOR BARU: A 47-year-old man died after falling into a well near his house in Skudai here.

Skudai Fire and Rescue Department operations commander Suraini Adnan said the incident took place near Lorong 7 in Kampung Nesa on Saturday (Aug 24).

She said they received an emergency call at 9.32pm and rushed to the scene, some 9km away from the fire station.

“The water in the well was about 15m deep and our rescue diver found the victim’s body at around 10.30pm.

“The victim was brought to land and declared dead at the scene by a medical assistant,” she said in a statement on Sunday (Aug 25).

Suraini added that according to the victim’s relative, he had called his mother to ask for forgiveness before the incident.

The well was located near the victim’s house, she said, adding that the distance from the well opening to the water surface was about 5m.

The victim’s body was handed over to the police for following procedures, said Suraini.
