KOTA KINABALU: Eight people, including a student, have been detained in connection with the gang rape of a 15-year-old student here.
Kota Kinabalu police chief Asst Comm Kasim Muda said the suspects are aged between 14 and 38 and were rounded up after the girl lodged a report earlier this week.
He said the suspects were picked up from their homes around the state capital within 24 hours from when the report was lodged and added the investigation is being conducted under Section 375B of the Penal Code for gang rape.
Meanwhile, a pedestrian died after she was knocked down following an accident involving two vehicles at Jalan Kota Kinabalu-Papar, near Kampung Dumpil in Putatan on Friday (Aug 23).
Penampang police chief Supt Sammy Newton said the 28-year-old woman was killed instantly in the 2.30pm mishap.
He said the woman’s remains were sent for an autopsy at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Kota Kinabalu, adding the drivers of the two vehicles were not hurt.
He urged those who witnessed the incident to come forward and assist police in the probe which is under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
