KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department has inspected 15 Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) stations in the capital recently to ensure compliance with the Fire Services Act 1988 (Act 341).
In a statement Monday (Aug 26), the department announced that the inspection found several areas requiring improvements, including the public address system, the main panel of the fire prevention system, the pressurised system in the fire escape, the firefighting lobby, and faulty emergency lights.
According to the department, all the findings will be recorded before a notice detailing the requirements for compliance (FC6) is issued to the premises.
"This inspection is among the department's preparedness measures to ensure that the Fire Safety Equipment System on the premises is working and in good condition.
"This inspection is also done to ensure that the Fire Safety Action Plan is in good condition during an incident or fire, which is essential for ensuring the safety of life and property," the statement read.
The department said the operation, led by Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department assistant fire safety director Mohamad Hamizal Ainuddin, was carried out over two days starting on Aug 21.
"The inspection, which was conducted from 12.30am until 4.30am, went smoothly and received full cooperation from all parties to ensure that any fire incident can be dealt with properly," the statement said. – Bernama
