Mahkota polls: MCA will rally behind BN candidate for ‘absolute victory', says Dr Wee

PETALING JAYA: MCA will work tirelessly to ensure the Barisan Nasional candidate gets an absolute victory in the Mahkota state by-election, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

The MCA president said a coordinated campaign was being planned to ensure an effective election machinery throughout the campaign period.

"This was discussed during a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi on Monday (Aug 26)," said Dr Wee in a Facebook post on Tuesday (Aug 27).

The Ayer Hitam MP said the meeting, which was also attended by top leadership of Johor Barisan and Pakatan Harapan, discussed various strategies for the polls.

The Election Commission has set Sept 28 as polling day for the by-election in Johor, while the nomination and early voting dates are Sept 14 and 24, respectively.

The by-election was called following the death of the incumbent assemblyman, Datuk Sharifah Azizah Syed Zain, 63, on Aug 2.
