IPOH: A petrol station in Sungai Bakau, Parit Buntar, has been found to be selling overpriced diesel.
Perak Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry director Datuk Kamalludin Ismail said checks conducted at the premises on Monday (Aug 26) at about 5.40pm found that it was selling diesel at RM3.25 per litre, two cents more than the retail price of RM3.23 as set by the government for Peninsular Malaysia.
"We issued an order for stock declaration to the station supervisor under Section 8 of the Control of Supplies Act.
"The station, which has a valid retail licence until Feb 21, 2029, has about 2,100 litres of diesel in its storage tanks," he said in a statement on Tuesday (Aug 27).
"Action will be taken against the station owner under Rule 21(1) of the Control of Supplies Regulations for increasing the price of controlled items without approval," he said, adding that the matter will also be investigated.
Kamalludin said anyone who is convicted can be fined up to RM1mil or be jailed for a maximum of three years or both.
"As for the corporate body, they can be fined up to RM2mil," he said.
Kamalludin said all traders have been reminded to be more ethical, as stern action can be taken against them if they fail to comply with the law and regulations.
"We called on the people and consumers to be our eyes and ears on controlled and subsidised goods discrepancies.
