Cops seize RM2mil in drugs, bust lovebirds' lab in JB neighbourhood

JOHOR BARU: A couple has been using a terrace house in one of the city's affluent neighbourhoods as a drug processing laboratory for the past three months, according to police.

Johor police chief Comm M. Kumar said four raids were conducted here and in Iskandar Puteri between 3.30pm and 11.30pm on Aug 17.

“In the first raid, police arrested a 31-year-old foreign man at a gated and guarded residential area here.

"Checks inside the house found various equipment, tools and chemicals to process the drugs.

“We then arrested a 38-year-old local woman at a roadside in Taman Setia Indah. She brought the police to a house in Bukit Indah and an apartment near Taman Daya.

“The women led us to the discovery of various drugs at the two premises worth more than RM2mil,” he told a press conference held at state police headquarters here on Wednesday (Aug 28).

Comm Kumar said among the drugs seized were 3.6kg of ecstasy powder worth more than RM613,000; 20.2 litres of liquid ecstasy worth RM1.3mil; seven erimin 5 pills worth RM140; 42 ecstasy pills worth RM2,100; 40 nitrazepam pills worth RM160; and 2.6kg of syabu worth RM83,000.

He said initial investigations so far found that the two suspects had been processing the drugs since May.

“The narcotics seized from the two suspects, who also tested positive for drugs, are meant for the local market and sale in a neighbouring country.

"We are tracking down the remaining members of this gang.

“Their modus operandi was trafficking the drugs in small quantities using runners to avoid detection by police,” he said, adding that the two suspects had no priors.

Comm Kumar said police also seized a car, almost RM132,000 in cash including Singapore currency, and three bank accounts containing a total of RM129,784.

He said the two suspects were under remand until Saturday (Aug 31) to help with investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
