‘Datuk’ denies cheating two men of RM5.5mil

SHAH ALAM: A 50-year-old man with the title Datuk has been slapped with three charges at the Sessions Court here for allegedly cheating two people of RM5.5mil for a non-existent project.

Mohamad Feardaus Khairuddin claimed trial to all charges before judge Awang Kerisnada Awang Mahmud yesterday.

According to the facts of the case, the accused had allegedly misled the men with the offer for them to design and construct the so-called Northern Expressway Alternative Road that links Padang Besar, Bukit Kayu Hitam, Jitra, Padang Terap, Teloi, Kulim and Changkat Jering, which was non-existent.

The father of six had allegedly cheated the men, aged 54 and 58, in a house at Seri Kembangan between Nov 4 and 9, 2022.

He had also allegedly cheated one of them into parting with RM500,000 purportedly for sales and service tax payments for the same project at a bank in Kajang on Dec 13 last year.

DPP Aida Khairuleen Azli offered bail at RM80,000 with one surety.

In his mitigation, Mohamad Feardaus’ counsel RL Paniercelvan said the accused had two wives and the youngest of his six children was only nine years old.

He added that the accused had only ventured into business 10 years ago and pleaded for a reduced bail amount of RM40,000.

Awang Kerisnada set bail at RM50,000 with one surety and prohibited the accused from contacting either one of the complainants. The judge also set Sept 27 for mention of the case.
