Johor princess participates in coral rehabilitation effort at Pulau Tengah

MERSING: Johor princess Tunku Tun Aminah Sultan Ibrahim joined more than 30 scuba divers in a coral rehabilitation effort at Pulau Tengah here.

The princess and her husband Datuk Dennis Muhammad Abdullah participated in the campaign organised by beauty brand Lush Malaysia in collaboration with the Johor government.

Johor health and environment committee chairman Ling Tian Soon, who was also at the event, said corals have been planted in the ocean during the two-day programme in efforts to protect marine life.

“The planted corals will be monitored by experts every three to six months to ensure their healthy growth.

“We also hope that this will spur coral growth in the area, which will benefit other marine species,” he said in a Facebook post on Wednesday (Aug 28).

Ling reminded the public that environmental pollution and excessive development were the main causes of climate change, including the rise in ocean temperatures.

“These changes have a negative impact on coral growth, so we decided to embark on the collaboration with the beauty company for the first time in Johor,” he added.

During the programme, briefings on conservation efforts were given to Tunku Tun Aminah, Dennis and the other delegates.

The royals also participated in a bath bomb-making workshop and coral rehabilitation activity at the seashore.
