Runaway lorry wheel kills biker on NSE

SEREMBAN: A 47-year-old man heading to work in Putrajaya was killed when a runaway wheel that had detached from a lorry struck his motorcycle along the North South Expressway on Wednesday (Aug 28).

Seremban police chief Asst Comm Mohamad Hatta Che Din said the accident happened about 7.30am at KM266.9 of the NSE.

"Based on preliminary investigation, the wheel got detached from a lorry heading south in the opposite direction and then struck the deceased who was on a motorcycle.

"This caused the deceased to lose control of his bike and crashed into the guard rail," he said in a statement.

ACP Mohamad Hatta said the deceased died on the spot due to severe head injuries.

He said police have traced the driver of the lorry involved in the freak accident.

"We urge eyewitnesses to contact the police to assist in investigations," he said, adding that they can contact investigating officer Insp Fadzilah Ahmad at 016 2895801 or the district police station at 06 603 3222.

The case, he said, is being probed under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
