KUALA LUMPUR: Another sinkhole has been reported on Jalan Masjid India here, about 50m from where the ground suddenly collapsed on Friday (Aug 23).

The latest incident is said to have occurred at around 2.30am on Wednesday (Aug 28), believed to have been caused by the previous night's heavy rain and storm.

Checks at the location found that the sinkhole area has been cordoned off by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) to prevent any untoward incidents.

In Friday’s incident, a woman tourist identified as Vijayalaksmi, 48, from Kuppam in Andhra Pradesh, India, fell into an 8m-deep hole and disappeared.

The search and rescue (SAR) operation was postponed at 7.30pm Tuesday (Aug 27) because of the rain.

A check at 8am Wednesday found that the team, comprising police, Fire and Rescue Department, DBKL and Civil Defence Force personnel was already at the scene conducting the SAR, now in its sixth day.

Dang Wangi OCPD Asst Comm Suliezmy Affendy Sulaiman, when met by reporters at the scene, confirmed the latest sinkhole incident.

He said discussions are ongoing to extend the public road closure, with updates to be provided later. – Bernama
