KOTA KINABALU: Education material such as textbooks are now available online for free in Universiti Malaysia Sabah’s (UMS) ‘Openbook@UMS’ platform.
The online application, which was opened to the public from Tuesday, will help students from low income families have free access to reading material. This was made possible with UMS collaborating with the Commonwealth of Learning (COL) with an MOU signed on Sept 8 last year.
UMS board chairman Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Dahlan said Openbook@UMS could help bridge the digital gap by offering digitalised revision material that is easily accessible using basic mobile devices.
“This platform not only provides quality education material but also supports the government’s objective in ensuring inclusiveness and equal education opportunities for all,” he said at the launch of the online application.
Previously, UMS vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Kasim Mansor said the user-friendly and innovative platform would also inspire lecturers to develop interactive multimedia books and material.
