KUALA LUMPUR: A 66-year-old housewife is seeking the public's help to find her 39-year-old daughter, as she has been missing since February.
Housewife Tan Hong Hwa said she last saw her daughter Lam Zhi Yun at her husband’s funeral in August 2019 and added that her last attempt at contact was on Feb 20 of this year regarding an insurance letter, to which she received no response.
"I rarely contacted my daughter and I usually communicated with my daughter only about important matters, including letters from banks or insurance companies.
"The silence from my daughter after my last message in February prompted me to take action to search for her," Tan said at a press conference organised by the Wilayah MCA Youth Public Service and Complaints (PSC) response team on Thursday (Aug 29).
Tan then said that she lodged a police report on Lam's disappearance with the police station at Presint 11, Putrajaya on Aug 2 and then visited the Seri Kembangan condominium where she had lived.
"Inside, the condo appeared untidy and personal identification documents were missing, including her passport and IC," she said.
Tan then added that a check with the condominium's management showed that her car and access card were last used in January 2023.
"I also found a grocery receipt dated July 26, and CCTV footage from the store confirmed that my daughter had been there on that date," she added.
Meanwhile, MCA Youth PSC response team leader Lim Teng Loon said that they do not suspect financial issues are involved in Lam’s disappearance, as indicated by Tan’s report that there had been no contact from loan sharks.
"Tan made a second police report on Aug 27 to update the authorities on the situation.
"The case is now in the early stages of investigation and the Wilayah MCA Youth PSC response team will collaborate with the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), hospitals, and Jabatan Kebajikan Masyarakat (JKM) to locate Lam," Lim said.
The family and authorities are appealing to the public for any information that may assist in finding Lam.
Those with information are urged to contact Wilayah MCA Youth PSC response team leader Lim Teng Loon at 012 2727 804 or the nearest police station.
