ACTRESS Erra Fazira is grateful that her fans think she is deserving of a “Datuk” title, but said she doesn’t think about chasing titles conferred by the King or state Yang di-Pertua.
Speaking to Kosmo!, the 50-year-old actress said she is not the right person to ask about the matter.
“If many are of the opinion that I am deserving of a title, I am grateful that they think so. It is okay if I do not carry a title, but it is thoughtful that people believe I deserve one,” she said.
The former beauty queen rose to fame in the 1990s when she was cast as one of the main characters in the famous Malay romance movie, Sembilu.
Erra Fazira is also a judge in a reality television show Kilauan Emas, which seeks talent among the elderly and is slated to broadcast next month.
> Elderly trishaw riders in Pasar Payang, Kuala Terengganu, are struggling to find customers.
Trishaw rider Abdul Wahab Abdul Rahman, 78, told Sinar Harian that he would continue to ply his trade even though there are hardly any customers these days.
“I start my day at 9.30am and sometimes return home as early as noon.
“Some days, there are no customers. We can get around RM20 to RM30 a day if we are lucky,” he said, adding that he has been riding the trishaw since the 1970s.
Another trishaw rider, Mamat Ibrahim, 79, from Kampung Ladang Tok Pelam, said there was one occasion where he only got one customer over three days.
“It is harder to get customers now even though I don’t set the charges.
“Passengers will pay around RM5 to RM10 depending on the destination,” he said.
The elderly trishaw riders used to receive a monthly incentive of RM200 due to their heritage mode of transportation, but this has since been discontinued by the state government.
There are currently around 10 active trishaw riders in Kuala Terengganu, with many having quit due to old age.
