High Court acquits fisherman of trafficking 15.8kg of drugs

SEREMBAN: A fisherman was discharged and acquitted by the High Court here for allegedly trafficking 15.8kg of methamphetamine three years ago.

In acquitting Seow Sun Fong, judge Datuk Rohani Ismail said the prosecution had failed to prove a prima facie case against him.

“After assessing the evidence before the court and eyewitness testimonies, the court finds that the prosecution had failed to establish a prima facie case against the accused.

“The accused is hereby discharged and acquitted without his defence being called,” she said.

Seow, 43, was charged with committing the alleged offence at a resort car park in Port Dickson at 9.30am on March 1, 2021.

He was charged under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, punishable under Section 39B(2) of the same legislation.

Offenders can be sentenced to death or imprisoned for life and whipping upon conviction.

Five witnesses were called during the trial which began in November last year.

Judge Rohani also advised Seow to be careful when choosing friends in the future.

Nisa Hazwani Omar prosecuted while Seow was represented by Haresh Mahadevan and Ramzani Idris.
