Lorry driver killed in multi-vehicle pile-up in Johor


PASIR GUDANG: A lorry driver was killed in an accident involving three lorries, a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) and two motorcycles on Friday (Aug 30).

Pasir Gudang Fire station deputy chief Sarhan Akmal said the incident took place at the Pasir Gudang Highway leading to Tebrau off the KPJ slip road.

“We received an emergency call about the incident at 5.14pm and arrived at the scene located about 5km away at 5.20pm," he said in a statement.

Sarhan said 11 firemen from the Pasir Gudang and Johor Jaya Fire stations together with a Fire Rapid Tender (FRT) and an Emergency Medical Response Service (EMRS) were deployed to the accident site.

“The 50-year-old victim identified as Mohamad Iskandar Ismail who was pinned in the driver’s seat of the MPV died on the spot," said Sarhan.

He said two male lorry drivers, six adult males in the MPV, and two male motorcyclists involved in the incident suffered injuries.

“They were dispatched to Hospital Sultan Ismail in Pandan, Johor Baru by the Health Ministry ambulance and Bomba EMRS for treatments," added Sarhan.

He said the operation led by senior officer II Shahrul Suboh ended at 6.35pm.
