KUALA LUMPUR: A distraught mother is searching for her daughter who has mysteriously vanished.
Tan Hong Hwa, 66, expressing her anguish, said she last saw her daughter Lam Zhi Yun (pic, below) in person during her (Tan’s) husband’s funeral in Aug 2019.
Her last attempt to contact Lam was on Feb 20, concerning an insurance letter, but she received no reply.
“I rarely contact my daughter except for important matters like letters from banks or insurance companies.
“Her silence since my last message in February prompted me to take action and search for her,” Tan told a press conference organised by the Federal Territory MCA Youth Public Services and Complaints (PSC) response team here yesterday.
Tan reported Lam missing at the Putrajaya Precinct 11 police station on Aug 2.
She also visited Lam’s condominium, where she was granted access by the management.
“Inside, the condo appeared untidy and her identification documents, including her passport, were missing.
“I checked with the management and was informed her car and condo access card were last used in January 2023.
“I also found a grocery receipt dated July 26, and CCTV footage from the store confirmed that my daughter had been there on that date,” she said.
Lam, a 39-year-old single woman, lived alone in Seri Kembangan and previously worked at a bank, as evidenced by an appreciation certificate found in her home.
Her current employment status is unknown.
Tan also checked with the Immigration Department, but there is no record of Lam leaving the country.
MCA Youth PSC response team leader Lim Teng Loon said there are no indications of financial issues related to Lam’s disappearance, as Tan reported that there had been no contact from loan sharks.
“Tan filed a second police report on Aug 27 to update the authorities on the situation.
“The case is currently in the early stages of investigation. The Federal Territory MCA Youth PSC response team will work with the police, hospitals, and the Social Welfare Department to find Lam,” Lim said.
The family and authorities are calling on the public for any information that might help in finding Lam.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Lim at 012-2727 804 or the nearest police station.
