KOTA BARU: Police are looking for witnesses to assist an investigation into alleged involvement of a former deputy minister and her husband in connection with a human trafficking syndicate in Myanmar, says Tan Sri Razarudin Husain.
The Inspector-General of Police said police will also obtain the investigation report issued by Myanmar.
“We have recorded statements from the politician and her husband who are said to be linked to the syndicate,” he said at a press conference after the handover of duties of the Kelantan police chief.
Recently, an Indonesian YouTube video clip went viral, allegedly exposing a Myanmar human trafficking syndicate, and implying the involvement of the politician and her husband.
Meanwhile, Datuk Dr Mashitah Ibrahim has denied the allegation and will take legal action against those who attempted to tarnish her reputation through the false claims.
The former deputy minister in the Prime Minister’s Department said she had already provided a statement to Bukit Aman.
In a Facebook post, she described the accusations circulated by certain parties as baseless and that the allegations were constructed from random media sources, lacking credibility and substance.
“I deny any involvement in such activities.
“It was merely a coincidence that a friend invited me to take a photograph at his project site in Myanmar.
“I will not hesitate to take legal action against any party that associates me with this slander,” she warned.
On Wednesday, the Malaysian Humanitarian Organisation filed a report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, calling for an investigation into the alleged involvement of a politician and her husband in a human trafficking syndicate in Myanmar.
