Probe of bank officer for insulting colleague's modesty almost done, says Perak top cop

IPOH: Police are wrapping up their investigation of a bank employee alleged to have insulted the modesty of a colleague here.

Perak police chief Comm Datuk Azizi Mat Aris said the investigation paper under Section 509 of the Penal Code would be referred to the state prosecutor's office for further action.

Comm Azizi said they received a report from a 38-year-old clerk at a bank in Bercham here on Aug 16.

"The woman alleged that she was sexually harassed by a colleague in 2021.

"The colleague is a 52-year-old man who is an officer (with the bank)," he said in a statement on Friday (Aug 30).

The statement followed a video on social media of a demonstration organised by the National Union of Bank Employees (NUBE) at a bank in Tasek here on Tuesday (Aug 28).

About 120 people were involved in the demonstration to show their dissatisfaction with the perceived failure of the bank management to act on the alleged offence.

Comm Azizi said the public is advised not to violate any provisions under the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012 and to report any workplace sexual harassment or misconduct at the nearest police station.
