Dr Wee wishes all joyous National Day, officiates Penang MCA convention


GEORGE TOWN: Wishing everyone a joyous Merdeka, MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong saas it is special to have officiated the state MCA convention here on the same day.

"I am proud to have had the opportunity to officiate the Penang MCA state convention held at Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology (TAR UMT) Penang campus on the day we celebrate our 67th Merdeka.

"The university was established by MCA and named after our father of independence, Tunku Abdul Rahman," he said in a post on social media on Saturday afternoon (Aug 31).

In the morning, Dr Wee officiated the opening ceremony of the Penang MCA Annual General Meeting (AGM) at the university in Tanjung Bungah.

He then expressed his gratitude to Loh Guat Hong, who represented the family of Tan Sri Loh Boon Siew at the AGM.

"He (Boon Siew) was a renowned philanthropist in Penang and we are grateful for the support and contributions from the Loh family, which enabled the establishment of the TAR UMT Penang campus.

"This has subsequently provided high-quality higher education services at affordable rates to all Malaysians regardless of race here," he said.

Dr Wee then shared that on the political front he spoke to the members on MCA's needs to be better prepared for the coming elections.

"I agree than we need to effective and prepared for the upcoming elections, including identifying potential candidates who are well-received by voters.

"This includes women and the youth," he said.

Dr Wee said joining him at the AGM were party deputy president Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon, secretary-general Datuk Chong Sin Woon, MCA vice-presidents Datuk Seri Dr Wee Jeck Seng, Datuk Ir Lawrence Low and Datuk Tan Teik Cheng who is also the state MCA chairman among others.
