MCA's focus is on addressing people's woes and needs before considering elections, says Dr Wee

GEORGE TOWN: The people must see MCA fighting for their rights and needs while addressing their woes before the party considers contesting in elections, said party president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

Dr Wee emphasised the importance of providing the best for the community through their work and that it shows results.

"It is no use talking about seats and contesting if we do not do the work.

"So we have to do the work, and we will speak up to give the best to the people in whatever capacity.

"It does not necessarily have to be a position in the government to be able to do it.

"We have to see it as a role we can play to help the people in any way," he said during a press conference after officiating at the opening ceremony of the Penang MCA Annual General Meeting (AGM) at the Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology (TAR UMT) in Tanjung Bungah on Saturday (Aug 31).

Dr Wee was asked to comment on the Penang MCA's desire to contest during the next General Elections.

Dr Wee said their presence on the ground needs to be felt first.

"If the people have met and given us their endorsement and blessings, then we can fight for that seat," he said.

When asked about the role MCA would play in the next General Elections in cooperating with Pakatan Harapan again, Dr Wee said he wanted to wait before entering that chapter as MCA needs to do the work first.

"For me, we must do our work and be pure with our intentions.

"I have been alone in parliament and will continue the struggle.

"I will not stop as long as the people's problems are not solved.

"I will carry out my responsibilities and obligations," he said.

Dr Wee said it is not that they (MCA) are smart, but at least they know people's needs and what should be done.

"I have been a backbencher, part of the Federal Government, a minister and deputy minister.

"It does not matter as long as we are dignified and give our opinion when needed," he said.
