Perhilitan warns against tiger sighting hoax

THE Selangor Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) has warned the public not to spread false information regarding the sighting of a tiger in Bandar Puncak Alam, Harian Metro reported.

Its director Wan Mohd Adib Wan Mohd Yusoh said this was to avoid confusion and creating fear within the local community.

“The wild animal video that went viral on social media actually took place in Kuala Betis, Kelantan.

“Action had already been taken by Kelantan Perhilitan on Aug 21,” he said.

Wan Mohd Adib also advised the public not to take matters into their own hands when they encounter wild animals, especially tigers, but should instead move to a safe place and wait for Perhilitan.

Recently, a 34-second video went viral on Facebook showing a driver recording the sighting of a tiger.

To date, the video has been shared more than 460 times.

> Afraid of being scolded by his father, a 12-year-old boy who wanted to run away from home fabricated a story that he was abducted by two foreign men, Kosmo! reported.

Shah Alam deputy police chief Supt Ramsay Embol said they received a report from the victim’s 41-year-old father at 11.16pm on Aug 29, claiming that his son had been kidnapped by two foreign men in a vehicle.

He said investigations found the allegations to be untrue.

“Investigations showed that the victim attends religious classes at a surau near his house from 8pm to 9pm every day. But on that particular day, he walked towards a shopping centre with the intention of running away,” Supt Ramsay said.

He added that the child was found by a couple at a gas station in Setia Alam who bought him food because he said he was hungry.

The victim then asked for permission to go to the toilet and called his father, he added.

Supt Ramsay said a review of the CCTV footage at the gas station found there was no abduction incident as claimed by the child.

“Witnesses have been identified and they had their statements recorded. The case has been classified as no further action,” he said.
