Selangor Ruler: Don’t spread hate

Sultan Sharafuddin: ‘Keep away from jealousy, slander as well as complaining and instigating.’

KLANG: In his typical sharp and no-nonsense manner, Selangor Ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah has reminded politicians and leaders to not drag the royal institution into their shenanigans.

“The royal institution is above politics and therefore, any form of reprimand and criticism against Rulers and the royal institution must be voiced through the correct channel and handled prudently,’’ Sultan Sharafuddin said.

In a royal address in conjunction with National Day, Sultan Sharafuddin reminded the people to not spread hate with negative elements such as the 3R (religion, race, royalty) issues.

The Ruler said he has always advised leaders and politicians to avoid inciting politics of hate, yet the negative culture is still prevalent among some of them.

“Nevertheless, I will not tire of continually advising the people to always cultivate strong unity within the community.

“Any differences among the races, religion and political leanings should not be an obstacle for Malaysians to stay loyal to the nation. On the contrary, use the differences as a recipe to create a pluralistic society which is united and respects each other,’’ Sultan Sharafuddin said.

The Ruler added that efforts must be made prudently to have programmes that can bridge any divide as well as to eradicate prejudices which are present among some people in the country.

Sultan Sharafuddin also said the younger generation, which is the nation’s hope, is exposed to a new form of colonialism that touched their thoughts in tandem with the speed of information technology, especially social media.

“Hence, the younger generation must be smart in facing and solving all the problems and challenges.

“The spirit of patriotism, tolerance and mutual respect must be continuously instilled within the young generation in the form of unity and harmony and free of negative elements,’’ Sultan Sharafuddin said.

The Ruler said he is confident the appreciation of the actual meaning of independence would rekindle love for the nation to formulate a developed and progressive nation.

Sultan Sharafuddin also reiterated his call for the people to assume the responsibility of propagating harmony and unity and not poison minds with negativity.

According to the Ruler, the people must understand and appreciate the nuances and purpose of the National Day celebrations held every year.

Sultan Sharafuddin said independence is not merely freedom from colonialism with the chants of “Merdeka! Merdeka!” but something that requires the soul and mind to be cultivated with the creation of identity represented by four main aspects – religion, morality, education and language.

“The nation needs citizens from various ethnicities and religions to come together to form a community which is strong and harmonious and based on the tenets of the Federal Constitution and Rukun Negara,’’ Sultan Sharafuddin said.

“In conjunction with National Day, let’s all unite as one independent nation that is competitive, developed and prosperous. Keep away from jealousy, slander as well as complaining and instigating that could create division among the people, so that we can live in peace.”
