Youth and women's support essential for MCA’s future, says Dr Wee

KUALA LUMPUR: The involvement of youth and women in the Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA) is of utmost importance, said its president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

He emphasised that it is not just an empty slogan to the party but is reflected in their actions.

"We (MCA) take the involvement of youth and women in the party seriously. It is not just a slogan but is reflected in the appointment of party members as district heads, village heads, and even in the hospital visitor boards in Johor, where the percentage of youth and women candidates is notably above 60%," he said in his post on Facebook on Sunday (Sept 1) afternoon.

Dr Wee shared his insights after officiating the Johor MCA Youth and Women Annual Delegates Meeting in Pontian, Johor, on Sunday morning.

He expressed his gratitude for being invited to officiate the meeting.

"Youth and women play a crucial role in the national political arena. They exhibit strength and are the future of the party to ensure its continued relevance and longevity," he said.

Dr Wee then took the opportunity to congratulate Wanita MCA national chairman Datuk Wong You Fong on receiving the Darjah Pangkuan Seri Melaka, which carries the "Datuk" title in conjunction with the 75th birthday of Melaka's Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Dr Mohd Ali Mohd Rustam on Aug 26.

He shared that he was joined by Wong, who is also the Johor MCA Women's chief, MCA national Youth chief Ling Tian Soon, and other MCA representatives at the meeting.
