KLUANG: Strengthening Malaysia’s renewable energy (RE) market and advancing the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR) will be key priorities in Budget 2025, says Deputy Energy Transition and Water Transformation Minister Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir.
This would align with the growing demand for renewable energy from investors, he said.
“Many of our investors are seeking greater access to green and renewable energy to operate their businesses and enhance their appeal to customers,” he said.
He said a meeting was held recently with industry players regarding the Corporate Renewable Energy Supply Scheme (CRESS), which is expected to be introduced this month.
“The response has been positive. We hope that the introduction of CRESS will pave the way for a more robust RE ecosystem and industry,” he told The Star yesterday.
Through CRESS, Akmal Nasrullah said investors would be able to obtain green power directly from their chosen providers, with third-party access (TPA) to the existing electricity grid participating in the New Enhanced Dispatch Agreement market.
He also said the recent introduction of the Kerian Integrated Green Technology Park in Perak should encourage the development of more green industrial parks in the country.
Akmal Nasrullah, who is PKR strategy director, was here yesterday for the opening of the new Simpang Renggam PKR.
He urged the Pakatan Harapan election machinery to remain vigilant in the upcoming Mahkota state by-election.
“Our main concern is the spread of hate messages,” he said.
“Our election machinery will be led by Johor Pakatan deputy chairman Aminolhuda Hassan.”
Aminolhuda cited the example of how some people had made use of a flashcard performance during Saturday’s National Day parade in Putrajaya to incite hate.
“They only took videos and screenshots of the part where Chinese calligraphy was shown and used it to stir up hateful sentiments.
“In reality, the flashcards also included Tamil and Bahasa, as well as representations of Sabah and Sarawak,” he said.
A photo and video of a flashcard performance, showing the word “Welcome” in Mandarin, was circulated on social media with a caption questioning the meaning of the word.
The Mahkota state seat fell vacant following the death of its assemblyman Datuk Sharifah Azizah Syed Zain on Aug 2.
Polling will be held on Sept 28.
