Mashitah denies involvement human trafficking, calls allegations outrageous

PETALING JAYA: Former deputy minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Dr Mashitah Ibrahim says she needs to thank her friends who have kept her in their prayers.

"To others, I dedicate this brief explanation as I have been bombarded with incessant questions," she said on Facebook on Monday (Sept 2).

"What is clear is there are no victims who accuse us of human trafficking and whatever it is, we leave it to the authorities to conduct a fair investigation.

"Do not cultivate a culture of spreading slander without any basis while the investigation is going on," added Mashitah.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail on Saturday (Aug 31) said police have opened an investigation on Mashitah for allegedly being involved in a human trafficking syndicate in Myanmar.

Earlier, the Malaysian International Humanitarian Organisation had urged the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission to probe into claims that a politician and her husband were linked to a human trafficking syndicate in Myanmar.

Mashitah, in a Facebook post on Aug 29, denied the allegations, calling them outrageous.
