Kin of police station attacker charged again

JOHOR BARU: One of the five family members connected to the Ulu Tiram police station attack has been charged again at the Sessions Court here with possessing a book titled Hakikat Islam dan Hakikat Syirik by Abu Sulaiman Aman Abdurrahman, linked to the Islamic State.

Radin Imran Radin Mohd Yassin (pic), 62, was earlier granted a discharge not amounting to an acquittal by judge Rasidah Roslee for the same offence, which is one of his four charges, due to a technical issue.

However, he was charged once more under Section 130JB(1)(a) of the Penal Code (Section 574), which carries seven years’ imprisonment or a fine, if convicted, while the item could be seized.

The judge also postponed the next mention of the case for the five suspects due to incomplete reports and set Sept 24 as the new date.

This was after the prosecution had appealed for a new date to hand over the terrorism expert’s report.

Deputy public prosecutor Yazid Mustaqim Roslan told the court that the prosecution needs about a month to prepare the report.

This is the second time that mention of the case has been postponed due to the incomplete report.

Lawyer Arief Firdaus Ashikin, who represented the family, requested that the new date be the final date before the case is transferred to the Kuala Lumpur High Court.

He said this was because the five accused have been charged and in custody since June.

On June 19, Radin Imran and four other family members were slapped with nine charges between them at the Sessions Court.

In the Ulu Tiram police station attack on May 17, two policemen, Kons Ahmad Azza Fahmi Azhar, 22, and Kons Muhamad Syafiq Ahmad Said, 24, were killed.

Another police officer, Sjn Mohd Hasif Roslan, 38, was injured by two gunshots to the shoulder and hip.

The 21-year-old attacker, identified as Radin Romyullah Radin Imran, was shot dead.
