Nearly 600 M'sians, Chinese attend Merdeka Gala Dinner in Shanghai

SHANGHAI: Nearly 600 Malaysians and Chinese guests attended the Merdeka Gala Dinner held here last Saturday (Aug 31).

Held on National Day, the annual banquet was hosted by the Shanghai office of the Malaysian Chamber of Commerce and Industry in China or MayCham.

This year's celebration was even more memorable as the banquet coincided with the significant milestone of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and China.

This National Day celebration ranks as one of the biggest Merdeka celebrations outside of Malaysia, with close to 600 Malaysians and Chinese guests attending this special occasion.

During the banquet, guests were feted with Malaysian delicacies such as satay, Hainanese chicken rice, and laksa.

They were also treated to traditional Malay and Chinese dance performances.

Guests of honour include Malaysia's Consul-General in Shanghai Syed Farizal Aminy, Shanghai vice-mayor Zhang Yahong, MayCham China in Shanghai chairman Yap Chi Hui, Deputy Chairman of China-Malaysia Qinzhou Industrial Park Datuk Beh Hang Kong, and Labuan IBFC executive chairman Datuk Iskandar Mohd Nuli.
