S'wak-level Malaysia Day celebrations to be held in Sri Aman, says state minister

KUCHING: The Sarawak-level Malaysia Day celebration will be held in Sri Aman, about 190km from here, on Sept 16, says Datuk Seri Roland Sagah (pic).

The state Education, Innovation and Talent Development Minister said the celebration would be themed "Malaysia Madani: Jiwa Merdeka, Segulai Sejalai".

He said Malaysia Day was an important celebration for Sarawak, along with National Day and Sarawak Day.

"These are all very significant dates for us. The celebration shows our patriotic spirit as Malaysians.

"For Sarawak, we will continue to be with Malaysia for the wellbeing and prosperity of all Malaysians," he said after chairing a meeting on the celebration in Sri Aman on Tuesday (Sept 3).

Sagah said two thanksgiving ceremonies and a concert would be held in the run-up to the main event on Malaysia Day.

"There will be a thanksgiving ceremony for other religions on Sept 14 and another one at Sri Aman Mosque on Sept 15.

"We will also organise a concert for the public on Sept 14 with popular artists to entertain the crowd," he said.

The Malaysia Day parade will take place at the Sri Aman Indoor Stadium on Sept 16.

Sarawak Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and his wife Toh Puan Fauziah Mohd Sanusi will be the guests of honour at the celebration.

Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg and his wife Puan Sri Juma'ani Tuanku Bujang will also be present, along with other state ministers and dignitaries.

The celebration will be broadcast live by state-owned television station TVS and the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas).
