THERE are fundamental problems with men in India which has resulted in women from Nirbhaya to the Kolkata trainee doctor and countless others getting brutalised, Makkal Osai reported Shashi Tharoor as saying.
The acclaimed writer and Congress MP for Thiruvananthapuram addressed the fundamental issues contributing to violence against women in India, following the release of the Hema Commission report.
The commission, led by retired Kerala High Court judge K. Hema, uncovered widespread sexual harassment and gender discrimination within the Malayalam cinema industry, sending shockwaves throughout the state.
In response, several women and at least one man from the industry have accused prominent figures of abuse or misconduct, leading to resignations from significant industry positions.
In the wake of the report, the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes dissolved its executive committee, and the state government established a special task force to investigate the allegations.
Tharoor expressed concern about the frequent occurrence of sexual crimes against women.
