Action will be taken against parents who allow underage children to drive, say cops

SEREMBAN: Parents have been reminded that action will be taken against them if they allow their underage children to drive their vehicles.

District police chief Asst Comm Mohamad Hatta Che Din issued the reminder after a car driven by a 10-year-old boy crashed into a parked van around 9.30pm on Tuesday (Sept 3) in Taman Arowana Impian.

"The boy's nine-year-old neighbour was with him when the accident happened.

"The boy lost control of the car while negotiating a bend and crashed into the van which was parked by the roadside and which then moved forward and slammed into another car," he said in a statement on Wednesday (Sept 4).

Both the driver and his passenger escaped injury.

ACP Mohamad Hatta said those with information can contact investigating officer Insp Sudesh Kumar at 016483 0853 to assist in the probe.

The case, he said, is being investigated under sections 39(1) and 111 of the Road Transport Act 1987, rule 10 of the Traffic Rules 1959 and section 31(1) of the Child Act 2001.
