Sanusi: Yes, I have a second wife

PETALING JAYA: Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor has come out to confirm that he has a second wife and the marriage ceremony was done by his first wife Tok Puan Jusmalailani Jusoh a few months ago.

Sanusi said he married a police officer who was a single mother with one child from Kedah.

“It was my wife who did the marriage proposal a few months ago and everything was done accordingly.

"My wife (Jusmalailani) and child were also present on the wedding day. All the necessary procedures were followed, so there is no issue,” he told Sinar Harian.

Sanusi said this during a press conference after the handing over of land grants at Felcra Belimbing, Tualak in Kuala Nerang, Kedah, on Wednesday (Sept 4).

He was baffled by the interest in him, adding that the marriage was not announced because he did not want to publicise personal family matters.

"I don't like my family's personal matters to be publicised, many people speculated that I was caught for close proximity, which was uncalled for. Such things should not be sensationalised, people must be educated. Sensationalised things must have to be substantiated.

"I want to avoid unnecessary sensational things like this. It's not an issue, I have two more quotas for a wife," he said jokingly.

Sanusi pointed out that many people were exaggerating and making various speculations as such he came forward to clarify the situation and status of his second marriage.

"My second wife was not the investigation officer involved in the rare earth element (REE) case, she was on the explosives material case found at the Menteri Besar’s official residence, Seri Mentaloon. That was the first and last time I saw her.

"After that, she became friends with my wife because she likes to read the Quran and attends lectures. She and I have not met, are not friends and are not in love, but we fell in love after marriage,” he said.

Sanusi hoped following his announcement, certain parties would not make speculations surrounding his personal and family matters.

He hopes that after this announcement, there will be no more speculation related to his personal and household matters by certain parties.

"Love after marriage is more beautiful than love before marriage. It is not good to drag such matters all over, please respect my privacy and my family’s privacy,” he said.

He also clarified the misunderstanding claiming that his second wife was involved in the REE case in Kedah, whereby the meaning of arrest mentioned in his speech was referring to Home Minister, Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasuation.

"During the state elections campaign season, he (Saifuddin) attacked me and made two mistakes accusing me of various things. I caught him making two mistakes at that time in relation to the REE case, that's what I mean about the 'arrest'," he explained.

Previously, Sanusi denied allegations of being married to an officer who was part of the REE in Buki Enggang, Sik, Kedah theft investigative team as mentioned through social media.

Sanusi married Tok Puan Jusmalailani Jusoh on February 14, 1999 and have five children.
