Cops open investigation into brawl among migrants in Penampang

KOTA KINABALU: An investigation paper has been opened by the Penampang police following a brawl among Pakistani migrants in the district.

Penampang OCPD Superintendent Sammy Newton said a 45-second and a one-minute 18-second clips of the fight between several individuals at a parking area of a commercial shop block were circulating on social media on Thursday (Sept 5).

He said that a police report was also filed the day before (Sept 4) at 5.06pm by a Pakistani man who was a victim in the altercation.

“Initial investigations revealed that the altercation stemmed from dissatisfaction on both sides, and the police are pursuing three additional suspects involved.

“The case is being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code (for voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means).

“Those who witnessed the incident are urged to come forward to the nearest police station to give information to assist with the probe,” he said.

He also reminded the public to refrain from circulating the video clips to avoid public distress.
