Two more doctors remanded in fake Socso claims probe


GEORGE TOWN: Two more doctors and another individual have been brought to the court complex here to be remanded over allegations of falsified Social Security Organisation disability claims in Penang.

The trio arrived at 8.50am on Thursday (Sept 5) under heavy Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) escorts.

The medical practitioners are believed to be from a public and private hospital on Penang mainland.

They were brought to the court in orange MACC lockup attire for the remand process under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009.

On Wednesday (Sept 4), 33 suspects including three doctors were brought in five MACC vans under heavy security at 9am.

The doctors, aged 36, 50, and 57, were remanded for two days while 30 others comprising 19 private sector employees, eight agents and three runners aged 26 to 60 were remanded between one and three days by a Magistrate's Court here on Wednesday.

They were arrested by the MACC on Tuesday (Sept 3) to facilitate investigations under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009 for submission of false claims.

It is understood that the doctors, who are orthopaedic specialists, are from two public hospitals in Bukit Mertajam and Seberang Jaya while the other is with a private hospital in Butterworth.
