RAMPANT ecotourism and land-clearing activities have resulted in the popular resort Cameron Highlands no longer being as cool as before, reported Harian Metro.
Regional Environmental Awareness Cameron Highlands (Reach) president A. Dilip Martin said daytime temperatures at the highlands resort are around 24°C now compared to between 20°C and 21°C previously. He said the drastic change in temperature change could be felt in the past five to six years with the clearing of new plots of land in the district.
“Nowadays, it’s not a problem for residents and visitors to go out in their t-shirts because it’s now less cool compared to before,” he said.
If no steps are taken to mitigate the concerning rise in temperature, he warned that it may affect the production of vegetables and other agricultural products as well as lead to a reduction in the number of tourists visiting Cameron Highlands for its cool climate.
> The daily also reported that 16 years after actress Maya Karin played the main role in the movie Duyung, it has now fallen onto Anna Jobling.
The 24-year-old will play a mermaid in the sequel to the first film, Duyung: Legenda Aurora. The movie’s executive producer Datuk Norman Abdul Halim said Jobling is suited for the role as she once represented Selangor in swimming.
“We were looking for an actress who can swim well because it won’t be easy wearing the mermaid costume.
“It’s a challenge and we can see that Anna can do it well,” he said, adding that other than Maya, the other actors in the movie are Saiful Apek and Yasmin Hani from the first movie.
Shot in Pulau Sipadan over 25 days, the first movie was a hit.
Jobling, whose full name is Anna Ellisa Gustin Jobling Abdul Rahman Jobling, is best known for the TV drama Melur Untuk Firdaus, which became a sensation as far as Indonesia.
