Four men jailed 20 months each in Melaka body dumping case


MELAKA: Four men were jailed 20 months each by a Magistrate's Court here for concealing the deaths of two people whose bodies were dumped in undergrowth in Kampung Ujong Padang, Cheng in July last year.

Magistrate Khairunnisak Hassni meted out the sentence on Lok Kian Seng, 48; Daniel Ho Chin Cher, 34; Woon Chee Weng, 45; and Lim Chien Voon, 42; on Friday (Sept 6) after they all pleaded guilty to deliberately concealing evidence related to the deaths of Stanley Chew Kok Kin, 23, and Soo Yao Long, 26.

The charge was framed under Section 201 of the Penal Code and read together with Section 34 of the same law, which provides for a prison sentence of up to seven years or a fine if convicted.

The offences were committed at a house in Taman Paya Rumput Perdana in Melaka Tengah district between July 7 and 10 last year.

Lawyer Nahdan Rengganathan Abdullah represented Ho and Lim while Lok was represented by Asyraaf Abu Bakar Hamzah. Woon was unrepresented.

DPP Wardah Ishhar prosecuted.

The court ordered the sentence to run from the date of the four men's arrests which ranged from July 20 to 23 last year.

On July 10 last year, it was reported that a 35-year-old lorry driver made a gruesome discovery of two bodies wrapped in canvas sheets at Kampung Ujong Padang.

The bodies were believed to have been dumped at the scene two to three days earlier.

The bodies were under piles of rubbish. One body was clad in jeans and a T-shirt while the other was dressed only in denim shorts.
