Male elephant killed near Kg Gajah in Johor


KLUANG: A male elephant was killed after it was hit by a trailer lorry on Jalan Sri Timur, Kampung Gajah here on Thursday (Sept 5) night.

Kluang OCPD Asst Comm Bahrin Mohd Noh said they received information about the incident around 10.45pm, reported Sinar Harian.

Comm Bahrin said that the trailer lorry was heading towards East Kahang when the elephant suddenly crossed the road.

"However, the 53-year-old lorry driver did not sustain any injuries," he added.

Comm Bahrin said the Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) has been informed about the incident and that the elephant carcass has since been removed.

The case is being investigated under Rule 10 of the Road Traffic Rules 1959 (LN 166/59).
