Mahkota polls: Don't raise prices arbitrarily, traders warned

JOHOR BARU: The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry has warned traders in the Mahkota state constituency in Kluang not to raise prices of essential goods ahead of the by-election.

Johor ministry director Lilis Saslinda Pornomo said that strict action will be taken and penalties imposed under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011 (AKHAP).

"We have not received any complaints of price hikes in Mahkota so far but if we do, firm action will be taken," she said after visiting the Jualan Rahmah programme at the parking lot of the Pasir Gudang City Council (MBPG) stadium here on Sunday (Sept 8).

"We have conducted extensive advocacy and education to ensure traders understand their responsibilities," she said, adding that there are 200 enforcement officers carrying out price monitoring across the state.

She said with attention turned on Mahkota due to the by-election, the ministry was determined to ensure that traders do not exploit the situation.
