Movie that is more than just about TARC College

KUALA LUMPUR: Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology (TAR UMT) is poised to captivate audiences with its forthcoming feature film The Story of TARCians.

The movie depicts a heartwarming journey that chronicles the lives of ordinary Malaysians striving for a better future through education during the early days of the nation’s independence.

MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong, who is also TARC Education Foundation board of trustees chairman, said The Story of TARCians forms part of a series of exciting developments shared with graduates, underscoring TAR UMT’s commitment to progress and community values.

“The film spotlights the pivotal role of TAR College while also encapsulating broader themes of friendship, unity, peace and the quintessential Malaysian spirit.

“This may be a story with the then TAR College at its core, but The Story of TARCians is also about friendship, unity, peace and what defines true Malaysian spirit.

“With this, I would like to invite all Malaysians to watch the movie when it is released at the end of this year,” he said in his speech at the TAR UMT KL campus convocation ceremony yesterday.

In addition to celebrating its graduates’ achievements, TAR UMT highlighted its continued progress and developmental milestones.

During the ceremony, Dr Wee announced that the highly-anticipated Student and SME Centre is slated to be operational next year.

“Located at the heart of the campus, this state-of-the-art facility is expected to become a beacon of TAR UMT’s dedication to its unique branding, ‘Beyond Education’.

“Equipped with the latest advanced technological facilities, modern interior and essential amenities, this centre will become the catalyst for academic breakthroughs via ground-breaking research activities and experiential learning processes.

“The SME Centre will spearhead TAR UMT’s efforts to become a future-ready talent development hub in the region by forging collaborative efforts that will further bridge the academia-industry gap,” Dr Wee said.

A total of 8,136 graduates from all TAR UMT campuses, including the KL main campus and branches in Penang, Perak, Johor, Pahang and Sabah, received their scrolls.

The ceremony celebrated the culmination of the student’s educational journey at TAR UMT.

Dr Wee also expressed his pride and excitement as graduates stepped onto the stage to receive their scrolls, symbolising the beginning of the next chapter in their lives.

“All we ask is for you to keep learning and growing. By doing so, you will prove that TAR UMT graduates can make a real impact in society,” he added.

Additionally, he announced that TAR UMT presented a Doctor of Philosophy to Dr Monna Ong Siew Siew and a Doctor of Philosophy (Computer Science) to Dr Kathleen Tan Swee Neo for the first time.

Also present were TAR UMT board of governors chairman Tan Sri Chan Kong Choy and TAR UMT president Prof Dr Lee Sze Wei.
