Government announces rationalisation programme for statutory bodies, GLCs


PUTRAJAYA: Federal statutory bodies, government link companies (GLCs), and related entities will be subject to a rationalisation programme to ensure their optimum output, said Tan Chief Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar.

The Secretary to the Government (KSN) said this was in line with the effort to synergise the public and private sectors.

"In this respect, the government has set up the Federal Statutory Body Rationalisation and Streamlining Office, which will take immediate effect.

"The office will be headed by former Treasury secretary-general Datuk Seri Asri Hamidon," he said at the 2024 KSN Leadership Aspiration ceremony at De' Seri Endon Hall, Puspanitapuri here on Tuesday. (Sept 10).

In his special address to civil servants, “Public Service Reform,” Shamsul Azri said the move aimed at eliminating overlapping functions of related bodies such as federal statutory bodies, government link companies, government investment companies (GICs), and companies limited by guarantee (CLBG).

He added that the move will also strengthen strategic cooperation between the public and private sectors with regard to activating and reforming the government link bodies under the Finance Ministry.
