Malaysia hosts successful halal business session to strengthen ties with China, says Dr Wee


PETALING JAYA: The Deputy Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, officially launched the Malaysia-China Halal Business Forum in Shanghai, China 2024 and delivered the keynote address to 200 attendees.

“Thank you to all the participants who attended. Hopefully, this relationship will continue to improve and build business for both Malaysia and China,” wrote Dr Wee Ka Siong in a Facebook post on Tuesday (Sept 10).

The MCA President wrote that during his speech, Ahmad Zahid noted that globally, the halal industry is growing at a rate of 9.3% and has reached a value of USD3 trillion and that Malaysia has allocated 14,300 acres for halal hubs to produce products for the global halal market.

“To date, 88 companies or organisations outside Malaysia have received Malaysian halal certification, including 6 companies from China,”

“The DPM also mentioned that 40 companies from China have expressed interest in investing RM4bil in Malaysia to produce halal products.” wrote Dr Wee.

He also shared that a panel session was held at the event. It featured speakers from Halal Development Corporation (HDC), JAKIM, Malaysian Investment Development Authority (Mida), and Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade).
