Victory over Sulu claimants a ‘testament to Sabah’s strength’

KOTA KINABALU: The victory over the Sulu claim is a special gift and the beginning of new opportunities for Sabah, says Datuk Arthur Joseph Kurup.

The Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah (PBRS) president said it is a gift for Malaysia Day and Sabah Day, adding that it is “an affirmation of our identity, culture and future as proud Malaysians”.

“This victory is a special gift that enhances the festivities, reminding us of the strength found in togetherness,” said Kurup, who is also Deputy Agriculture and Food Security Minister, in a statement yesterday.

He said PBRS vows to continue its support for all measures that ensure the safety and interests of the people of Sabah and Malaysia at large.

Kurup was commenting on the recent victory of Malaysia at the Dutch Supreme Court against the Sulu group’s appeal, which he said has ushered in an era of renewed hope and affirmation for the sovereignty of Sabah.

“For years, the claims of the Sulu group had cast a shadow over the rights and identity of Sabahans, challenging the very essence of what it means to be part of this great nation.

“However, this landmark decision serves not only as a legal victory but also as a powerful testament to the strength and resilience of Sabah’s sovereignty within Malaysia.

“It casts aside the unfounded claims that have loomed over the state, reinforcing the undeniable truth that Sabah is and will always be an integral part of Malaysia,” he said.

In the spirit of unity and celebration, PBRS thanked the unity government led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for the unwavering commitment and tireless efforts in addressing the external challenges faced by the state.

“This victory highlights the government’s seriousness in resolving such matters and protecting the interests of the people.

“We celebrate not just a court ruling but the spirit of Malaysia, united and strong, ready to embrace the future with optimism and pride,” Kurup said.
