IPOH: The rise in scammers going door to door masquerading as public officials is posing a challenge to enumerators conducting the Sixth Malaysian Population and Family Survey (KPKM-6) 2024.
National Population and Family Development Board deputy director-general (Management) Hairil Fadzly Md Akir said the survey's success depended heavily on a high response rate.
However, he told a press conference after meeting Perak government officials on the survey here on Wednesday (Sept 11), the high incidence of scams made selected respondents wary about providing information.
To address this, Perak women, family, social welfare, cooperatives and entrepreneur development committee chairman Datuk Salbiah Mohamed said measures would be implemented to clear up any confusion or doubt among respondents.
"Enumerators will have clear identification to distinguish them from scammers.
"They will have special attire and be accompanied by local leaders, such as a village chief or penghulu, to assure the people that the survey is genuine," she added.
A total of 2,860 Perak households will be involved in the survey, which began on July 15 and ends on Dec 31.
Hairil Fadzly said about 150 households have already been polled in the state so far.
"The survey is to provide the latest data on population, family, reproductive health and socio-economic situation of the Malaysian population.
“We hope that with the cooperation of state governments and district administrations (nationwide), we can increase the number of respondents," he said, adding that they were aiming for at least a 70% response rate.
