KOTA KINABALU: Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) deputy president Datuk Jahid Jahim has been endorsed by his party division to defend the Tamparuli seat in the next state election.
The 66-year-old Jahid, who is also Sabah Rural Development Minister, was endorsed unanimously as the sole choice for to be defend the seat at the PBS Tamparuli division's committee meeting on Tuesday (Sept 10).
The endorsement comes amid speculation over his candidacy after he suffered a stroke in August 2022. After an absence, he returned to work 18 months ago.
According to a statement released by the PBS Tamparuli on Wednesday (Sept 11), the endorsement for Jahid was made without any prejudice and unanimously supported by all delegates.
Delegates acknowledged Jahid as an experienced state leader and will continue to play an important role to ensure the people's support for PBS in the area, which is a party stronghold.
Jahid held the Tamparuli seat for three terms from 2004-2013 and regained the seat in the 2018 General Election. He retained it in the 2020 snap Sabah elections.
