Babysitter to be charged with murder of infant tomorrow, says Melaka police chief

MELAKA: A 34-year-old babysitter will be charged at the Alor Gajah Magistrate's Court over the death of infant Muhammad Al Fateh Amri Mohd Fikry at a nursery in Taman Kelemak Utama in Alor Gajah, says Melaka's top cop.

Deputy Comm Datuk Zainol Samah said the suspect would be produced in court at 9am on Friday (Sept 13) to be charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

He said that the investigation paper had been submitted to the Deputy Public Prosecutor and an order was given to charge the suspect.

On Sept 6, the eight-month-old baby died shortly after he was sent to a nursery in Alor Gajah here by his mother and grandfather at 7.05am on the same day.

The mother then received a call from the nursery that asked her to pick up her child.

Upon arriving, the mother found that Al-Fateh's body had turned blue and his nose was bleeding.

The baby was immediately taken to Alor Gajah Hospital but he was pronounced dead.

His parents Major Ir. Ts Mohd Fikry Amri Abd Halim and Sabrina Hakiem Zaini were devastated by the loss, especially when they had waited for 13 years to have a child.

Fikry also claimed that the babysitter was seen on CCTV wrapping the baby, stuffing a milk bottle, covering him with a piece of cloth, and smothering him with a pillow.

Following this, Melaka police detained the childminder, who is also a mother of three, on Sept 7.
